Environmentalists blast California’s revised metal shredding rules

Environmentalists are blasting a proposed new emergency regulation by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) that appears to modify an earlier emergency rule on metal shredding activities, saying it inappropriately weakens the earlier rule and fails to meet the requirements of a recent court ruling against the state. “DTSC has artificially narrowed its Proposal to cover only transportation and disposal, in contravention of both the Superior Court’s judgment and DTSC’s own evaluation of what is necessary to protect.
