Volunteers are needed to assist with removals of an invasive Asian kelp, Undaria pinnatifida, from local marinas. Boaters are also asked to keep an eye out for this invader at their local marina and report suspected sightings.
The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center holds Undaria removals in San Francisco and Half Moon Bay.
Undaria pinnatifida is an invasive algae that has been spreading up the California coast, often attaching itself to the hulls of boats. Left unchecked, the kelp can crowd out native organisms and disrupt the ecosystem. Please come out and help stop the spread of Undaria! RSVP to email@example.com
If you're a boater, please keep an eye out for this invader at local marinas and report suspected sightings to SERC. Contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (415) 435-3528. Read more information from SERC about the spread of Undaria in San Francisco Bay.
