Win! You Stopped the Fast-Tracking of the Delta Tunnel Project

Earlier this month, we sent out an urgent action alert to stop Governor Newsom’s attempt to undermine environmental review and fast-track the Delta Tunnel.

And thanks to you, Newsom’s plan failed!

Supporters like you urged legislators to push back—and they did just that. As our science director Jon Rosenfield told KQED, “I think the Legislature got [the] message, understood it, and recognized it as true to California’s values and spurned the governor’s efforts to waive California laws for pet projects.”

Forcing the Feds to Protect a Declining Bay Species

The federal government has gone to great lengths to ignore our petition to protect the Bay’s White Sturgeon, whose populations have plummeted in recent years.

So, we took legal actionnow a judge is forcing the Trump administration to comply with the Endangered Species Act.

The administration tried to delay decisions about the White Sturgeon that are required under the Endangered Species Act for 4 more years. Our court win means they will have to act within nine months. And we will make sure they do.

Victory! Richmond’s Point Molate Will Become a Regional Park

For decades, Richmond’s Point Molatethe “crown jewel” of the East Bay shoreline—has been targeted for development.

In 2013, Baykeeper led a cleanup effort to remove 96 tons of trash and debris from the area to make it safer for public access. Ever since, community groups have been fighting to preserve it.

Now the East Bay Regional Parks District has purchased over 80 acres along the shoreline to create a new regional park. This is a huge win for the Richmond community!

Catch Chasing Chimeras: The Lure of Deceptive Climate Solutions

A new documentary, Chasing Chimeras, powerfully exposes the fossil fuel industry’s push for false climate “solutions” that endanger communities in the Bay Area’s refinery corridor and beyond.

Specifically, the film exposes the harmful impacts of the proposed Montezuma wetlands carbon capture pipeline, which Baykeeper and a coalition of local partners are opposing as industry greenwashing.

You can stream the documentary for free online here or catch an in-person screening on October 2 in Berkeley.

Group of cleanup volunteers with buckets of trash along the shoreline

Thank You, Coastal Cleanup Day Volunteers!

Baykeeper is grateful to the 40 volunteers who joined us to stop trash in the Bay for California Coastal Cleanup Day. Together, we removed 230 pounds of trash from the shoreline! And that included thousands of cigarette butts and pieces of microplastic that otherwise would have washed into the Bay, hurting water quality and wildlife.
