A small fish is at the center of a legal dispute between a San Francisco nonprofit and the largest wildlife-focused federal agency in the U.S.
San Francisco Baykeeper, which sends patrol boats out into the estuary to monitor for environmental threats, filed suit last week against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service accusing it of missing a deadline that would have designated the region’s population of longfin smelt as endangered.
