California Attorney General Rob Bonta and a coalition of environmental nonprofits sued ExxonMobil on Monday, accusing the energy giant of enacting a decades-long “campaign of deception” that fueled a global plastic pollution crisis.
The separate lawsuits filed in San Francisco Superior Court by Bonta and the nonprofits will seek remedies from ExxonMobil for environmental destruction, public health harms and an end to “deceptive practices” that they contend have led to plastics being found from the depths of the Mariana Trench to the peak of Mt. Everest.
