More than a dozen proposed new water laws are racing to the end of the legislative process in Sacramento

While many of these bills might make it to Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk, no one can say if he will sign them, veto them, or ignore them. There is no timeline set in stone for these bills.  AB 460 (Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, D-Orinda): Would increase penalties the state Water Resources Control Board can impose for unauthorized water diversions. People who ignore the Water Board’s “cease and desist” orders would pay $2,500 per day, up from  $1,000 a day. It would also increase the penalty for those who violate a term or condition of a permit, license, certification or registration issued by the Water Board, from $500 a day to $1,000 a day.
