Exxon Sues Baykeeper and Partners

Last fall, Baykeeper and our allies filed a lawsuit against Exxon to hold it responsible for its role in the plastic pollution in California’s waterways.

Now Exxon has responded by suing us, contending that we defamed the company and interfered with its profits. Apparently, our lawsuit seems to have hit a nerve.

But we will not be intimidated. We’re grateful for all of you who are standing beside us while we take on this fight!

Pushing Back Against THe Water Lies

The L.A. fires have been catastrophic, causing people and businesses to suffer across the region. Unfortunately, the president has used the disaster as a PR stunt to spread lies about California’s water to advance his own political ends, issuing directives that would divert even more water to wealthy megafarms in the Central Valley.

As Baykeeper’s science director Jon Rosenfield told CalMatters, the Trump administration is acting as “a lawless regime that uses extortion to enrich their political supporters.”

Act Locally: Stop the Delta Tunnel Project

More than half of the fresh water that should flow into the Bay already goes to megafarms and cities.

If the proposed Delta Tunnel becomes a reality, the Bay and Delta will lose even more water—to the detriment of fisheries, wildlife, and local communities.

The State Water Board is meeting on February 18 to decide whether to move forward with this disastrous plan.

NEW Win! Baykeeper Compels Action for Bay Fish

Due to our successful lawsuit to list Longfin Smelt as endangered, on January 15 the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced plans to designate more than 90,000 acres of critical habitat for this native fish.

The move should protect the fish’s habitat throughout the Bay and the Delta.

The quality of Longfin Smelt habitat depends on the volume of freshwater flow into the Bay, so we will continue to fight to restore river flows, which are also vital for many other native fishes.
