WATER WARS: Gov. Gavin Newsom is ramping up his efforts to get his pet water projects closer to the finish line before his term in office ends — and it’s rankling some environmental and fishing groups.
Eric Buescher, the managing attorney at San Francisco Baykeeper, and Chris Shutes, the executive director of California Sportfishing Protection Alliance, tore in to Newsom and some of his top aides on Tuesday. The reason: letters they had sent to an independent judge appointed by the State Water Resources Control Board in the case deciding whether to grant the proposed Sites Reservoir a new water right to pull water from the Sacramento River.
