After they were caught dumping harmful waste into the Bay and sued by environmental watchdog San Francisco Baykeeper, oil company Valero and shipping operator Amports agreed Monday to settle for $3.3 million.
As part of the settlement, the companies with operations at the Port of Benicia have also agreed to make significant infrastructure upgrades, train employees, and share maintenance records, shipping schedules, surveillance footage, and other data with Baykeeper, the nonprofit that brought the lawsuit forward in 2022 after their investigators used drones to capture evidence of multiple water quality violations.
