Coastal Cleanup Day - Saturday, September 17

Registration is closed for this event
Baykeeper is hosting a beach cleanup at India Basin Shoreline Park to target the serious marine debris problem that disproportionately affects our City's eastern shoreline.California Coastal Cleanup Day is the state’s largest single effort to remove the debris that has accumulated on beaches and inland shorelines over the past year, bringing tens of thousands of volunteers out annually to protect the marine wildlife and habitat that can be badly damaged by marine debris.

India Basin Shoreline Park is located in San Francisco's Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhood and is a thriving recreational destination in the community. The park is located on Hunters Point Boulevard at Hawes Street and is accessible by MUNI lines 19 and 44. Participants will be eligible for great prizes from our sponsors Teva and REI!

The cleanup runs from 9 AM to Noon. Register now!

Please come prepared:  Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Don’t forget sun protection! Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own bucket or reusable bag, gloves and reusable water bottle, so that they won’t have to use the disposable items that are supplied.

Safety is our first priority. Even the cleanest-looking beach can hide dangers under the sand, such as nails, broken glass or hypodermic needles. Everybody that joins us for a beach cleanup is required to sign a waiver form. Forms will be available on site, but we suggest that you bring a signed waiver form with you to help speed up the check-in process. Click here to download the waiver form (PDF).

Literacy for Environmental Justice: San Francisco Baykeeper is partnering with Literacy for Environmental Justice (LEJ) for this beach cleanup. LEJ is a community-based organization working in the Bayview-Hunter's Point neighborhood to foster an understanding of the principles of environmental justice and urban sustainability. They have helped coordinate much of the Coastal Cleanup Day efforts on the city's eastern shoreline for the past several years. More information about LEJ can be found at www.lejyouth.org

If you have any questions about the cleanup, please contact Tracy Corbin, Membership Coordinator for San Francisco Baykeeper at tracy@baykeeper.org or 415-856-0444 x 112.
