Deb Self, Executive Director

Deb Self provides executive leadership for Baykeeper, focusing on strategic organizational and program planning, Board and high-level volunteer development, fundraising, fiscal management and senior staff mentorship and performance evaluation. She plays a key role in program planning and evaluation. Deb joined the Baykeeper staff in 2003 as Associate Director before being promoted to Executive Director in 2006. She serves as a Board member of the Waterkeeper Alliance. Deb has more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit organizational development, environmental policy advocacy and regulatory compliance. Her Masters in sociology focused on environmental justice, and she holds a bachelors degree in geology.
Sejal Choksi, JD, Baykeeper & Director of Programs

As Baykeeper and Program Director, Sejal Choksi is responsible for crafting Baykeeper's overall programmatic strategy and managing all program and legal matters. Sejal first joined Baykeeper as an attorney in September 2002, spearheading Baykeeper’s efforts to secure the nation’s first regulations to control agricultural pollution. In July 2004, Sejal was promoted to Program Director and Baykeeper. She serves as a member of East Bay Municipal Utility District’s Blue Ribbon Panel, addressing systemic sewage collection problems, and was appointed by the Senate President Pro Tem to serve on California’s Oil Spill Prevention & Response Advisory Committee. She also serves as a Board member of the California Coastkeeper Alliance. Sejal holds a J.D. with a specialization in Environmental Law from the University of California at Berkeley and graduated suma cum laude with a degree in biological anthropology from Emory University.
Sara Aminzadeh, JD, Public Affairs Associate

Sara joined Baykeeper shortly after law school as Legal Fellow and now uses her communications and policy skills as the Public Affairs Associate. She came to Baykeeper having pursued every environmentally-related course, internship, job, research project and volunteer opportunity that she could find throughout her studies. These experiences ranged from tracking endangered foxes on Santa Cruz Island to performing legal research on the human rights impacts of climate change at the Center for International Environmental Law. Sara holds a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a B.A. in environmental studies and political science from University of California, Santa Barbara.
Amy Chastain, JD, Staff Attorney

Amy Chastain has been Baykeeper’s Staff Attorney since 2006. She is responsible for managing Baykeeper’s extensive legal docket and representing the organization in administrative and legal matters. She first joined Baykeeper as a volunteer in 2004 and was hired onto staff shortly thereafter. Amy also assists with the organization’s water quality monitoring program and personally tests the Bay’s full contact recreation designation by swimming in it. Amy holds a J.D. from the George Washington University Law School and a B.A. in biochemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Eliet Henderson, Development Manager

Eliet Henderson manages Baykeeper's development and communications efforts. She joined Baykeeper in January 2007 as Development Assistant and was promoted to Development Manager in 2008. She previously worked in communications on a statewide initiative campaign and as an events coordinator at Equal Justice Works in Washington, D.C. She graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2001 with a B.S. in sociology.
Jen Kovecses, Staff Scientist/Investigator

Jen joined Baykeeper in 2007 as Staff Scientist. Jen has studied fish, water, and invertebrates from lakes and rivers across North America. For her master’s thesis work, she studied the impacts of metal mining on lake food webs in northwestern Québec. After completing her graduate degree, she did a coastal management internship with Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Jen also manages Baykeeper's boat program. She holds a B.S. and M.S. in biology from McGill University in Montréal.
