Baykeeper Sues Valero, Port of Benicia Over Pollution Violations

Mar 2, 2022

Oakland, CA—Following the Clean Water Act's required 60 day notification period, Baykeeper filed a lawsuit against Benicia's Valero refinery and the Port of Benicia for discharging petroleum coke into the Bay in repeated violations of the Clean Water Act.

Baykeeper executive director Sejal Choksi-Chugh issues the following statement:

"We've filed our pollution complaint against Amports and Valero now that the Clean Water Act's required 60-day notification period has passed, and the defendants have contacted us. Because this is a new legal matter, we aren't going to make any further comment on the litigation at this time. We hope to work with the defendants to resolve this case quickly and in a way that protects the health of the Bay and the local community."
