Nothing like a dramatically historic—and incomplete—election night to remind us all that it's still 2020. We've heard for weeks that we wouldn't immediately know the results of the election, but it's disconcerting nonetheless. With ballots still being counted in unsettled states across the country, and breaking news of requested recounts, there’s tension and uncertainty in the air.

If there's one thing that 2020 has been relentless in teaching us, it's that we can never underestimate how strange things can get—and we need to remain patient.

Throughout the COVID crisis the country’s patience has been tested, from the pandemic’s first fatal days to its latest resurgence. This year, we’ve also needed to learn to stay calm and take action in the face of racial injustice and tragic wildfires. Here on the Bay, we've continued to fight battles against polluter violations and agency rollbacks—successfully—for clean water and healthy communities.

I certainly hope we don't have to wait months to find out who the country’s next leaders will be. But for the health of our democracy, I'm willing to be patient because it matters more than ever that every vote counts.

Through it all, we at Baykeeper are feeling grateful that we have a meaningful mission we're passionate about. I hope it gives you some small solace, regardless of what the future holds, that the Baykeeper team will be staying strong on the frontlines defending the Bay and fighting for you.

Let’s stay passionate, patient, and count every vote!
