The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Friday abandoned its appeal of a federal judge’s ruling last year that a sprawling collection of Redwood City salt ponds is protected from development under provisions of the Clean Water Act.

The move brings to an end the federal government’s attempts — started during former President Trump’s administration — to end protections that could have led to development at the site.
