It’s the largest estuary on the North America’s West Coast, supporting a vast network of natural habitat and a multibillion-dollar economy, but the San Francisco Bay Estuary is not receiving the federal funding it deserves for its restoration... Ian Wren, a staff scientist with San Francisco Baykeeper environmental organization, said other large estuaries throughout the country such as Chesapeake Bay, the Great Lakes and Everglades all have had long-standing issues with water quality. The funding disparity compared to San Francisco may just come down to politics in Washington, D.C., he said.
