Baykeeper defends San Francisco Bay from the biggest threats and holds polluters and agencies accountable. For more than 30 years, we’ve used science, advocacy, and law to achieve hundreds of legal and policy victories that have reduced industrial pollution, sewage spills, fossil fuel contamination, and toxic substances (like mercury and selenium) to protect the Bay’s wildlife and communities. And we proactively investigate Bay polluters and threats through regular boat and drone patrols. Press coverage has called Baykeeper "one of the region's most active and most effective defenders of the marine environment." Baykeeper is a financially healthy organization with a bold mission, passionate staff, and an engaged community of donors and volunteers. We’re now looking for experienced and enthusiastic candidates to join our advisory board.
Skills/Experience: Our current advisory board is made up of local environmental advocates and business leaders who bring dedication and expertise to Baykeeper’s mission. For this cycle of advisory board recruitment, we’re seeking applicants with a personal connection to SF Bay and skills in: 1) finance; 2) event organizing; 3) social media; 4) website optimization; 5) corporate social responsibility; 6) public-interest litigation; or 7) toxic site remediation. Those with other relevant skills in science, law, government policy, advocacy, fundraising, business, and marketing should also apply. We’re especially excited to welcome applicants who identify as women, people of color, LGBTQ+, and those who are of other diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Responsibilities: Baykeeper's advisory board hosts hybrid meetings (participants can join in-person or via zoom) once a quarter. Advisory board members are asked to serve on one board committee, most of which meet quarterly. An active advisory board member will volunteer at least 5 hours per month, which includes attending committee meetings, participating in events, meeting with partners, and providing advice to our staff, as requested. Advisory board terms are contingent upon active participation and are not limited.
Application process: Use this link to apply by the deadline 9/24/2021. Qualified applicants will be invited to interview with current Baykeeper leadership. Once vetted, advisory board candidates will be invited to serve on the Baykeeper advisory board. Note: demonstrating a commitment on the advisory board is a prerequisite to being considered for a seat on the Baykeeper board of directors, if and when a seat becomes available.
