Keeping Toxics Out of the Bay

Baykeeper works to reduce the flow of toxic chemicals to the Bay. Chemicals such as mercury, PCBs, selenium and pesticides can cause serious harm to the health of Bay creatures and to humans who come into contact with the Bay.

Keeping Pesticides Out of the Bay

cropdusterIn January 2009, Baykeeper won an important national victory when the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled that pesticides are pollutants that harm the environment and human health, and that the Environmental Protection Agency may not exempt pesticides from Clean Water Act protections. Reducing Mercury in the Bay

In July 2007, Baykeeper successfully concluded a decade-long fight to secure an aggressive plan to reduce mercury in the Bay. Our advocacy ensured that there are better protections in place for our children and for future generations of fish, birds and marine mammals who depend on clean water.
