Golden Gate Medley Swim
WAY TO GO, MEDLEY SWIMMERS!
All swimmers and crew arrived home safe and sound (and cold!) after Tuesday's early morning swim. Thank you to the swimmers and fantastic support crew who made it all happen. Congratulations Dolphins on a successful Golden Gate Medley!
Seven Dolphin Club Members to Swim the Gate – Using Four Different Strokes, and Handcuffs – for San Francisco Baykeeper
On Tuesday, August 3rd, seven Dolphin Club members will attempt an entirely new swim event in San Francisco: the Golden Gate Medley Swim. Each swimmer will complete a mile length of the Golden Gate Bridge using butterfly, backstroke, breast-stroke and freestyle, for a total of four spans of the bridge per swimmer. One will even complete a lap wearing handcuffs!
The swimmers are embarking on this adventure to raise awareness of how pollution impacts swimmers in the Bay, and to raise $10,000 for San Francisco Baykeeper, the nonprofit pollution watchdog for San Francisco Bay.
The swimmers will start at the Bridge’s southern terminus in San Francisco, cross the Golden Gate in the shadow of the mighty span, turn around on the north side and make a return trip to the starting point. Never before has such a feat been attempted in the Bay!
The brave swimmers who are taking the challenge:
Kim Chambers
Mike Chase
Jon Ennis
Tom Keller
John Ottersberg
Vic Pizzaro
Mike Silva
Ralph Wenzel
