A fierce battle by Berkeley firefighters to prevent a gas-tank explosion succeeded in averting a potential disaster this week — but an apparently deadly aftereffect is that hundreds of fish were killed when water and retardant foam from the firefight flowed into a nearby stream... Ben Eichenberg, a staff attorney for San Francisco Baykeeper, said he is “staggered by the size of this fish kill.”
