Environmental group sues Berkeley, alleging polluted stormwater discharges

San Francisco Baykeeper has filed suit against the city of Berkeley in federal court, alleging discharge of polluted stormwater from the waste processing and transfer station on lower Gilman Street into San Francisco Bay, in violation of the federal Clean Water Act. "Stormwater runoff is one of the most significant sources of water pollution in the nation and has been recognized as a leading cause of significant and cumulative harmful impacts to the water quality of San Francisco Bay," the suit's introduction reads in part.
