The U.S. House of Representatives is considering new legislation that would drastically weaken the power of the Clean Water Act to protect waterways from pollution. Please take action to help defeat this bill – complete this form to urge your U.S. Representative to stand up for the Clean Water Act and vote no on H.R. 2018.
H.R. 2018 would eliminate the power of the Environmental Protection Agency to oversee state water quality standards. States would no longer be held to national clean water standards, allowing them to pass weaker regulations on pollution sources like mountaintop removal mining, sewage treatment plants, industrial facilities and many others.
Just decades ago, America's rivers were so polluted that they actually caught fire. The Clean Water Act changed that by making clean water a federal responsibility, empowering the Environmental Protection Agency to establish standards for protecting all waterways in the United States from pollution.
Now, industry-backed members of Congress are attacking these fundamental pollution protections for U.S. waterways. By eliminating EPA oversight of state water quality programs, H. R. 2018 would deprive Americans of minimum health and environmental standards that should apply no matter where we live or travel in the nation.
Please help protect waterways, public health and wildlife across the country by asking your U.S. Representative to oppose H.R. 2018. Complete the form here to send your message.
