More than 50 swimmers, sailors, stand-up paddle boarders, kayakers, and rowers, along with the San Francisco Fire Department fire boat, the Hornblower hybrid ferry, a hybrid yacht, and the Baykeeper pollution patrol boat rode swift incoming currents under sunny skies, in the first-ever Bay Parade on Saturday June 14. It was a terrific show of support for a clean and healthy San Francisco Bay.
The on-the-water parade started at Aquatic Park, with more swimmers joining alongside Pier 14, and ended over 4 miles later at McCovey Cove. The parade’s spectacular finale, with the fire boat spraying water hundreds of feet in the air above the swimmers and watercraft, was broadcast live on the AT&T Park Jumbotron at the start of the San Francisco Giants ball game. After the parade, we celebrated with a party on the South Beach Harbor lawn.
The Bay Parade commemorated Baykeeper’s 25 years of protecting San Francisco Bay from pollution, with all participants raising funds to support Baykeeper’s work.
It’s not too late to donate to Baykeeper in support of a Bay Parade participant and a healthy San Francisco Bay. Your gift will be matched by a generous Baykeeper supporter, so we’ll receive double the value of your contribution. To donate, click here.
Baykeeper extends a huge thank you to the Bay Parade participants who fundraised and swam, paddled, rowed, and sailed on behalf of a healthy San Francisco Bay. Thank you also to our dozens of tireless volunteers, without whom we could not have put on such a successful event. And thanks to everyone who donated in support of a participant for your critical contributions to help make the Bay healthier and cleaner.
Many thanks also go out to our Bay Parade sponsors and supporters: Singulex, San Francisco Giants, Dharma Merchant Services, Levi’s, Anchor Brewing Co., Monterey Fish Market, Hog Island Oyster Company, South Beach Yacht Club, Hornblower Cruises and Events, the Dolphin Club, the South End Rowing Club, Whole Foods Market, Bi-Rite Grocery, SF Bay Adventures, City Kayak, and the San Francisco Fire Department.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this first-ever Bay Parade such a big success for San Francisco Bay!
