An Executive Update from Deb Self

Feb 11, 2015

Deb Self, Executive Director, announces her departure from San Francisco Baykeeper.

I'm writing with a personal and organizational update about San Francisco Baykeeper’s executive leadership. After 11 years at the helm, I have decided to step down as of March 1 due to an illness in my family.

It has been such a thrill and an honor to partner with our amazing community of passionate supporters, working together to protect San Francisco Bay. I can’t thank you enough for all of your generous support and encouragement.

Though this is a big change for Baykeeper, I have been working with our Board of Directors for the last six months to ensure a smooth transition. I am so grateful for the Board’s support, and I’m honored to accept their invitation to stay engaged with Baykeeper as a member of the Advisory Board.

The Board will conduct a formal search for the Executive Director position.

I am also very pleased to announce that our stellar Program Director, Sejal Choksi-Chugh, will serve as Interim Executive Director. Since joining Baykeeper’s staff in 2002, Sejal has served in several leadership roles, including guiding Baykeeper’s immensely successful program work to protect the Bay. You can read a recent profile of Sejal here. Baykeeper’s staff are a tremendous asset to the organization, and their dedication will continue to be the backbone of Baykeeper’s success.

Baykeeper is stronger than ever, and I have confidence that it will continue to be the high-impact organization San Francisco Bay and our communities depend on. Thank you so much for supporting Baykeeper’s critical work as it begins the next 25 years of working toward a thriving and healthy San Francisco Bay.

With gratitude,

Deb Self
Executive Director
